I've bought an ASUS notebook, namely the F3Sr. I chose this notebook, besides the discount, because of its integrated GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA modem (GT M378 manufactured by Option).
The notebook is shipped with Windows Vista Home Edition. Unluckily, its hardware is not enough to smoothly support such a greedy operating system. It worked but I had the feeling I could get much more out of it. Downgrading Windows Vista to Windows XP would have been a possible solution but they told me it was not possible.
Being a Linux fan, the first thing I did was booting it with Ubuntu 8.04.1 LiveCD to see what happened. Almost everything seemed to work correctly, except for the UMTS/HSDPA modem and the audio system.
BREAKING NEWS:
Ubuntu 10.04 is giving me a lot of troubles. I keep it installed only because I'm lazy, if I were not so lazy I'd try Fedora.
